The Australian government introduced a news media bargaining code law to make Google, Facebook and other tech companies pay media companies to share news content on their platform that has created a battle between the Australian government and tech giants.
Shashi International Pty limited thinks that the proposed law misunderstands the relationship between Facebook platform and the news publishers. Facebook said it took a different choice from Google because "there are limited economic advantages to posting news on its website." On the other hand, publishers willingly choose to post news on Facebook, as it allows them to sell more subscriptions, increase their audience and revenue, directly it’s a benefit of news agencies then only Facebook has left with the choice to stop allowing news content on their platform. It has also affected several government agencies and health emergency pages. Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said there was a "huge community impact" on the news ban. The social media website is visited by about 17 million Australians per month. He thought this action was unnecessary and wrong. Like millions of other companies, Shashi International Pty Ltd was also shocked to know that Facebook pages of many organizations were blocked due to this they are not able to share posts with Facebook links to their own website even though they have nothing to do with news content that’s why it was shocking to hear such news. Shashi International Pty Ltd thinks that it is also affecting several small businesses which have no relation with news content and are suffering huge losses. As a result of Facebook action, many users can abandon facebook because it has shut down the entire country news business and thousands of small businesses in a single sweep. Several Australian emergency services were hit by facebook ban on news content that were giving information to the local public about Covid outbreaks, Bushfires and cyclones rendered blank. Several users only come online to get updates on these specific news. Australians Responded to This Facebook Action The Facebook ban sparked an immediate backlash, many Australians outraged over their sudden loss of access to reliable and trusted sources. Shashi International Pty Ltd thinks that Facebook was one of the important platforms for Australians to receive emergency updates on pandemics and national disasters. Facebook users in Australia are slowly accepting that they will not be able to access regular news updates on the platform. Many people believe that Facebook's decision will "significantly backfire" and that Facebook will lose fans and customers in Australia as a result. Facebook knows that users can go elsewhere to get news updates whether it's Twitter, Google or direct news companies websites but it’s a loss of Facebook. This Facebook action is a real opportunity for new social media platforms to grab the attention of the audience by offering them the news on their links. In today’s era, nobody has time to wait for any decision. Everyone is waiting for an opportunity to emerge and this is the time where new social media platforms can emerge.
